Is Facebook Good For Your Business?

facebook_businessOnce your up and running, it’s absolutely essential to interact with your customers and not just trumpet your latest products. We are talking about social media here so its no good just seeing Facebook as yet another means of selling stuff.

One of the biggest problems to overcome is the attitude that, because Facebook is free, a set and forget attitude will be acceptable. All advertising media require input and commitment and this is especially so with Facebook. As a result the content needs to be updated regularly and monitored constantly.

This brings me to one of my pet hates. Too many businesses I see, go out of their way to gain “likes” as if that were all it takes to be successful on Facebook. It’s not the “likes” that are important, its how you engage with the people who have indicated a willingness to join your little community.

What brought them to your Facebook page in the first place? What are they expecting from being in your gang? The main objective of a good Facebook page should be to build loyalty and deepen relationships with your customers.

Part of this process involves finding out what kind of posts strike a chord with the followers in your community. What you’re trying to do is give them a reason to stay with you. There is nothing worse for your business than a load of “unlikes”.

You should avoid being boring or predictable at all costs. Ask yourself the leading question ” Would I “like” my own page”? If you are enjoying being on Facebook and having fun with it, the chances are your customers are too!

Being interactive is a great way of maintaining contact with your community. If someone posts a question or makes a statement, always respond with a comment. Another worthwhile tip is to find out what your customers are thinking. This is best done by asking for customer feedback.

Facebook allows you to link to websites or blogs of other social networkers. This can often lead to reciprocal links which will lead to a wider exposure of your profile.

Facebook is also a great way to drive traffic to your website or blog. A novel way of doing this is to publish part of your post on your page as a tease and link to your website for the rest. Remember however that it has to be interesting and entertaining for that strategy to work.

Finally, it’s worth investing time to learn about the Facebook platform itself. There is lots of guidance available to help you get started. Above all, read the terms and conditions as violations may result in your account being closed down.
