Vision is the source of inspiration that drives all employees. Vision is the source of energy that brings together employees, resources, supports from various parties to jointly provide the best they have and are able to give for the company to achieve that vision. Vision is a practical guide that serves as the compass in times of confusion about where to go. Vision builds strength in stressful and frail conditions.
Jack Ma recalled when Ali Baba, the world’s largest e-commerce infrastructure, was first established. Ali Baba was nothing at the time, but its vision was so large that it makes many people give their valuable support and make it grow so rapidly to this day. “It’s not what you are, it’s where your heart is, your vision,” said Jack Ma. It is not who we are, or how big we are, or how much our revenue is, but it’s what is in our hearts, our vision, that makes us great. And Jack keeps saying that he does not want his vision to change from time to time. He wants to help SMEs to prevail against big companies. He wants all the SMEs in China to be like amazon. That’s why he created an infrastructure that all SMEs can use. Jack does not want this vision to change because this is the dream that makes him and all parties involved, internally and externally, work hard to build Ali Baba. Therefore, he is willing to sacrifice his life to develop his team.
“I am a CEO, Chief Education Officer, I do my best to communicate,” he asserted. He attempts to build his team and his nation to realize together the ideal. It is not an easy struggle. For this reason, we should be able to find opportunities. “Worry for things people are not worried about,” he explained how he came to his vision.
He learned that China does not have a good infrastructure for SMEs to grow. He did not see anyone else who could do something to help those he wanted to help. This is the chance. This is the source of his vision, which is to contribute to what others do not see but is actually very important for the growth of China. Here we can learn that vision grows from love. Vision grows out of hope to help. Vision is built on the desire for a better life. Not for the company.
It’s too small for Jack to talk merely about Ali Baba. No, from the start, the first day, Jack did not talk about Ali Baba, Jack talked about China, about the common people in China. This is the people that he and those he asked to work together love. This love was bought by many parties who then helped him to work hard to realize the love for the Chinese common people. So, as a leader for yourself, for the family, for the team and for the company, what is your vision that can become the backbone that makes you, your family, your team and your company stand up in pride? What love do you want to sell and be bought by all your employees? By all your partners? And by all your customers and clients? What are your hopes and dreams that can be the source of inspiration that drives all parties to work together and give the best contribution they can give? What legacy do you want to inherit? If your children ask you one day, can you tell them this vision with pride? And if the Creator calls you to Him, can you give an account of the life He has given you on the earth?
