PAUD Cilandak Timur Learn About Animals

The cloudy day on Thursday, December 9, 2014 did not deter the spirit of the nursery children to learn at the nursery school (PAUD) in Cilandak Timur, Jakarta. This time they learned about different kinds of animals taught by two Fortuners, namely Nur Rochim Achmad as HCD Manager of Fortune Indonesia and Shinta Widianti as Fortune PR consultant.

The activity began with the introduction of the kinds of animals through pictures by both Fortuners, from mammals to reptiles. Rochim showed picture by picture and then the students mentioned the names of the animals. The students guessed the animal names not only in Bahasa Indonesia but also in English.

“Now let’s listen to a story about a horse and a deer in the woods, okay!” said Rochim while holding a statue of horse as the prop. Through the story, Rochim advised the students not to be arrogant and to protect one another. Shinta also told a story with a picture book as the media to attract the students’ attention. While telling the story, Shinta mentioned the names of animals such as whales, pigeons, frogs, horses, cats, and so forth.

After listening to the story, the students colored pictures of animals on paper. Each student got paper and colored pencils. The students looked enthusiastic to color the picture. Five minutes had passed, one by one, the students completed the task. “I have finished. This is a red horse,” said Ibad, one of the students of PAUD Cilandak Timur Jakarta.

The students’ cheerfulness still flared up when Shinta and Rochim invited them to sing. Two songs were sung alternately along with the clapping. The first song was Burung Kakak Tua. And the second song was Helly. “Helly… Guk guk guk.. Kemari.. Guk guk guk.. Ayo lari-lari..”

“I’m glad to share and learn with the children. I also learn something from the nursery teachers. Activities like this can become a refresher amid the work and its demands,” said Shinta.

The lesson taught by Shinta and Rochim received a positive response from Ros Sinaga one of the nursery teachers in PAUD Cilandak Timur. Ros was pleased the storytelling activity raised questions from some students. This might indicate stimulation in the students’ brain while listening to the stories from Rochim and Shinta. “It’s great that English was also used, so they can train their tongue,” said Ros.
