Indra Gunawan – Associate IT Manager of Fortune Indonesia

Having a career in Fortune Indonesia for 15 years in the IT field is not without obstacles. This man of two children always takes every challenge seriously and works hard every time. According to him, having a sense of ambition to achieve expectation is normal, but we should keep in mind that time will answer every good wish. Working with heart, always being patient and giving the best are the life principles that he always follows. Let’s check out his story:

When did you first join Fortune Indonesia? And where did you work previously?

Before Fortune Indonesia, I had worked for Nusa Cipta Rancana for three years as a programmer to handle system implementation. IT world has been my interest since the beginning. So after graduating from college in the same field, I pursued my career in the IT field at several companies. After leaving Nusa Cipta Rancana, I officially joined Fortune in 2003.

Having been a Fortuner for a dozen years, can you tell about your career in Fortune?

I initially became a freelancer at Fortune for a year. So, working at Fortune was my side job. I used to go to Fortune after doing my job at my previous workplace. It happened that the distance between my previous workplace and Fortune was not too far away, so I could handle both jobs. Then, I officially became a Fortuner on January 3, 2003. Beginning my career at Fortune as an MIS Officer for about three years, I handled all IT jobs, both hardware and software. Then, I became a Senior MIS Officer for approximately 10 years until 2016 and now I am an Associate IT Manager.

Good and bad times while working in Fortune?

The good times might be more to the friendship because Fortune is so dynamic; the people working here are always changing so fast that I can have a lot of friends. Fortune is also dominated by young people so I always feel young. The bad times might be when we have to do and learn anything related to IT because the IT team has no particular specialization, so there is no clear focus.

What does resolution mean to you?

I think everyone should have a resolution so that we have strong hope and dream. For me, resolution means that we are able to give the best for our career as well as social life. For Fortune, I wish that I can always give my best in the hope that Fortune will also give the best for me.

Are you an ambitious person?

Everyone must have a wish they want to achieve but being insanely ambitious is not who I am. Being ambitious is good but the process, time, hard work, and, not to forget, consistent prayers will answer every good wish.

What is your principle in life and in achieving expectations?

Be patient and always pray. My principle is to always give the best in all the tasks assigned to me. I take every challenge seriously and take responsibility for it. Then again, every dream will come true if it is done with hard work and time will provide the answers.

What does family mean to you?

Family is, for me, the number one, after God. They are the spirit of my life. Alhamdulillah, I am blessed with two beautiful daughters, and raising girls is not an easy job since there are many challenges I have to face. So I always prioritize and am responsible for them. Whenever I have free time, I will do my best to spend it with my family.

What value do you instill in your family?

I teach my children to always do kind deeds because later they will receive kindness in return. I also try to create a sense of togetherness, among others, by teaching my two daughters to be open with family. It’s a challenge for me because all my children are girls and they feel more comfortable to share stories with their mother but shy to share with their father. So, while we are having a family time, I often jokingly ask simple questions to prompt answers from them until they blurt out their stories and I prefer it that way.

Favorite activity with family?

My family and I love to visit historical places. When I have spare time, I do my best to spend time traveling together and create a lasting memory for my family.

Any hobbies or activities aside from work?

I enjoy caring for pets. At home, I have 4 cats, Persian-type cats and stray cats. In addition, I also keep ornamental fish that I take care of by myself at home.

What are your expectations at the beginning of this year?

I want to focus on increasing my knowledge and skills, especially on the IT security specialization. Now that the science of IT has been vastly developed and growing rapidly, I constantly try and look for the training about it. For my family, I hope my family will remain solid. At the moment, my oldest daughter has begun to have her own world. She prefers to play with her friends. I hope that we can maintain our togetherness.
