Help the Children Build Dreams and Ideals

Fauzan and Diah Introduce Various Professions at Sanggar Fortune Nursery School

“Who is this?” Saepujaman asked, pointing to a picture in his hand. About ten children sitting in front of him directly answered in chorus, “Police officer!” Aloud, Fauzan – the nickname of the Senior Account Executive of Mocca team of Fortune PR, asked another question, “Who knows what a police officer does?” This time, they soon gave diverse answers. From catching thieves, standing guard near traffic lights, driving a police car, carrying a gun, to taking a driver’s license. “If the driver’s license is taken, it means the driver gets a ticket. So, if we don’t want to get a ticket, we must obey the traffic signs!” said Fauzan again.

That morning, it was Fauzan’s turn to become the special teacher for students of Sanggar Fortune Nursery School in Lenteng Agung, on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. That day, Fauzan got the task to teach children various professions with pictures as the props. Besides police officer, there were also pictures of doctor, pilot, teacher, driver, engineer, astronaut, trader, farmer, and also photographer. Then, Fauzan fluently told what each profession does in its job.

However, Fauzan was not alone. Besides the FORU Corporate Communications team, there was Diah Dewi Andrini from the Recruitment Specialist of Human Capital Development (HCD) team, who also accompanied Fauzan in teaching about professions in class. “What about this picture?” said Diah holding up a picture of an engineer who was driving a train.  “Thomas!” shouted the children in unison, mentioning one of the popular cartoon characters, Thomas the Tank Engine. The teaching team was laughing so hard and then patiently explained to them about train, the land transportation, and the engineer profession.

After telling about the engineer, Fauzan and Diah explained to the children about the work of astronauts. With one hand holding a picture of an astronaut who was in space, Fauzan asked the children, “Who wants to be an astronaut when you grow up?” Danang, one of the four-year-old students, raised his hand. “Wow, Danang wants to be an astronaut.  Why?” Fauzan asked further. “So I can jump around boing, boing,” Danang said innocently, making both of them burst into laughter again.

After teaching them about ten kinds of profession, Fauzan and Diah closed the class by inviting the children to sing the theme song of Sanggar Fortune Nursery School. It was fun! “This is the second time for me to visit Sanggar Fortune Nursery School as the guest teacher. Previously, I taught the coloring fruits lesson in Ragunan Nursery School. Both were very enjoyable, the difference is that it is more personal in this new Nursery because of less number of students. So the communication could be more intimate and intense,” said Diah.

Meanwhile, it was the first time for Fauzan to know how it feels to be the guest teacher at a nursery school. “Since there was a kid crying once I got here, I realized that the students here are still really young. So, to begin with, I first explored their response on our arrival. Thankfully, they responded positively. Without realizing it, time was over. Really exciting,” said Fauzan.

Sum Purwaningsih as Head of the nursery school claimed to be very happy. “This kind of material is given for the first time in this class. It is great because it can help them get to know various professions as well as begin to build their dreams and ideals,” she said.
