Fortune Group Prevents Spread of Diphtheria by Vaccination

Fortune Group in collaboration with AIS Health Care held diphtheria-vaccination clinic on January 31 and February 2, 2018 at the Fun Room in Gedung Galaktika. As many as 40 Fortuners participated in the diphtheria-vaccination program which was divided into two sessions on two different days. This program serves as the manifestation of Fortune Group’s concern for the health of Fortuners by preventing the increasing spread of diphtheria in Indonesia.

Diphtheria is a bacterial infection that affects the mucous membranes of the nose and throat. The disease is highly contagious and leads to a serious and potentially life-threatening infection. Diphtheria bacteria could release a toxin which will rapidly spread to the heart and kidneys and cause death. Based on WHO data, there are 3,353 cases of diphtheria and 110 deaths in Indonesia.

According to Dr. Aina Dahlia from AIS Health Care, the virus can be spread through droplets, i.e. droplets breathed out into the air or saliva of an infected person when they cough. Moreover, it is also contagious by direct skin contact with someone who has diphtheria through their sweat or objects that the infected person has used.

“The best way to prevent diphtheria is to get vaccinated. In addition to prevention of the virus, this vaccine also serves to prevent the complications of the disease. Not only that, we should have a healthy lifestyle to keep our body fit which then can reduce the risk of becoming infected with this virus.” Dr. Aina Dahlia explained.
