KITA (Keluarga Indonesia Teman Anak) Bercerita inaugurated Elsafan Foundation for the Blind as Rumah Cerita (House of Stories) on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. Rumah Cerita is a place with lots of books, storytelling aids, and administrators who are committed to spending 10 minutes to tell stories to children on daily basis.

KITA Bercerita as an educational campaign to cultivate storytelling collaborates with several communities and social institutions to become “Rumah Cerita” It is intended for the realization of national awareness of Indonesian family to tell stories to the children for at least 10 minutes a day. Besides Elsafan Foundation, KITA Bercerita has also inaugurated PAUD Master Depok as Rumah Cerita.
Elsafan is an educational foundation and training as well as nursing home for blind children which is located in East Jakarta. Elsafan has the vision to equip blind children to be independent, inclusive, and useful for others.

“Every child has the right to hear stories. The blind children in this Elsafan Foundation are no exception. Storytelling can become a medium to make them experience the real world of children,” said Gita Galantari, Corporate and Marketing Communications Manager of Fortune Indonesia. In the inauguration ceremony, KITA Bercerita entertained dozens of the attending children by telling several stories.
Gita admitted that telling stories for children with special needs requires a different technique. “For blind children, we should be able to optimize the intonation so that storytelling becomes more interesting, fun, and able to develop the children’s imagination,” she said again.
The inauguration of Rumah Cerita was also coupled with the routine activities of Warga Mengajar which, this time, was attended by Eva Grace, Fortune PR Senior Account Manager. Eva claimed to enjoy her first experience participating in Warga Mengajar. “I enjoy it very much,” she concluded.
KITA Bercerita presented Storytelling Corner that is comfortable for children, equipped with various reading material for storytelling. This is meant to make storytelling activities of the teachers and pupils in Elsafan Foundation become more fun.
The inauguration of Rumah Cerita is part of the roadshow to Negeri Cerita (Land of Stories) to be held in July 2017. KITA Bercerita will make Negeri Cerita as the heaven of stories for Indonesian children.
