Singing Transportation Songs together at PAUD Lenteng Agung
“Kring..kring..ada sepeda..sepedaku roda empat..”(Ring… ring… my bike bell rings… my bike has four wheels…) the children song titled Kring Kring Ada Sepeda was sung several times at Sanggar Fortune Nursery School (PAUD) in Lenteng Agung Jakarta on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. “But my bike has two wheels…” said a student while singing the song. Eleven PAUD students sang the song together with Ludwina Vidyaninggar as a Copywriter of Fortune Indonesia Creative team and Seto Hendrianto as Senior Account Executive of Fortune Indonesia Activator team. They were not only singing but also dancing together and clapping to the beat of the song.
The song was sung after Vidy and Seto introduced the eleven students to eight kinds of transportation namely rocket, fire truck, mixer car, container, school bus, double-decker bus, jeep, and excavator. They used pictures to introduce the kinds of transportation. Vidy dan Seto also explained the function of each kind of transportation. One by one the students guessed the name of the vehicle. “Now, let’s count together, ok. How many school buses are there in this picture?” asked Seto.
After learning to count, Seto and Vidy asked the students to color the picture of vehicles of their choice. The students scrambled to take the picture they like. They took out their coloring pencils or crayons from their bag. Seto and Vidy encouraged the students to color neatly.
After almost half an hour, one by one the students finished coloring. Their names were written on the paper. Then, they showed their pictures to Seto and Vidy. Next, they were invited to show their pictures in a group photo. Their smile soon turned into jubilation when they got cookies and chocolate from Vidy.
“It was really exciting to teach these students, it wasn’t boring. The lesson was appropriate for their age level so it was quickly absorbed, but it seems that they still have to be monitored,” said Vidy.
The head of Sanggar Fortune Nursery School, Sum Purwaningsih, responded positively on Vidy and Seto’s teaching activities. Purwaningsih said both of them taught according to the theme and it was easily absorbed by the students. She was also pleased that the students were active in answering the questions and chattering in response to the lesson taught.
“The way of teaching was good, I’m glad to see the kids active in singing and answering the questions. In the future, we want teachers to use hand puppets to tell stories to the kids,” said Purwaningsih.
