Fruits Lesson at Sanggar Fortune Nursery School with Sartika and Syamiah

“Watermelon.. Watermelon.. Papaya.. Papaya.. Banana banana banana banana.. Fruit salad.. Fruit salad!” That morning, November 21, 2013, the students of Sanggar Fortune Nursery School (PAUD) Ragunan started their day by singing and dancing together. This dance was guided by Sartika Wulandari (Digital Public Relations of DiBe team, Fortune PR) and Syamiah Tul Rochmah (Secretary to the Managing Director of Fortune PR) who got the opportunity to be the guest teachers that day. The dance movement of the cute children spontaneously brought joy and laughter to everybody in the room that was attended by nearly 40 children.

The song and dance of ‘fruit salad’ were the opening activities for the fruits lesson that day. Sartika dan Syamiah enthusiastically introduced 15 kinds of fruits to the children. “Who knows, what is this fruit?” Sartika asked while showing a picture. “Apple!” the children answered aloud. “Who likes apples?” Sartika asked again, the children immediately greeted the questions by raising hands saying, ” I dooo!”

Besides kinds of fruits, the children were also introduced to colors and tastes of fruits. “Who likes durian?” Syamiah asked the children. “I doooo!” The children raised their hands again. “How does durian taste?” Syamiah asked again. “Yummyyyy!” answered the children innocently. Laughter was again accompanied the learning activities that morning.

After learning about the fifteen fruits, the children were challenged to come forward to demonstrate the ‘fruit salad’ dance. The response was incredible, confidently all children were scrambling to come forward. Then, the class activities that morning were continued by  coloring pictures of fruits. Four children with the best coloring results were given prizes. They are Damas, Sovi, Monas, and Rara. Yeay!

“To be honest, at first I felt worried to teach PAUD children because I have no teaching experience at all. But it turned out that the children were very expressive. When asked to dance, everyone was even scrambling to come forward. Hahaha..” Sartika said with a laugh.

In contrast, Syamiah has had teaching experience previously. “I’ve ever taught, but this was my first time teaching kids. And it felt great. The children were really adorable. So, there was no trouble in teaching. The classroom atmosphere was very lively” she said.

Iik Munigar, a teacher of Sanggar Fortune Class B, also expressed her delight over the visit of FORU team that day. “The learning activities today were amazing. It was not boring at all and instead it made the kids very excited,” she said. Iik also said that the children are very fond of coloring and have been trained to do it . “Hence, the results were pretty good and not messy,” she said again.
