Doing an Internship at FORU, Students of Sinar Cendekia Gained New Insights
Fortune Indonesia got a visit from the 11th grade students majoring in social science of Sinar Cendekia senior high school, Bumi Serpong Damai, Banten. Their 10-day visit that aimed for internship began on Monday, November 3, 2014. The internship program was a school assignment to get to know the communications industry such as advertising and public relations (PR).
The internship was implemented with the introduction to the history and the dynamics of Fortune as a company developing integrated communications in Indonesia. The initial session was demonstrated with a presentation by Gita Galantari as Marketing Communication Specialist of Fortune PR. Gita explained about the world of PR and the tips on working in PR industry. She emphasized the importance of mastering foreign languages other than English to excel in the world of public relations. This is related to international clients such as those from China who partnered with Fortune PR.
“In Fortune PR, there are PR consultants who are fluent in Mandarin and it is very profitable for the practitioners and communications company today,” said Gita in front of the students.
The next presentation was delivered by Hany Nurahmawati as Marketing Communications Manager of Fortune Indonesia. Hany explained the history of Fortune Indonesia as an advertising agency, its dynamics, productivity, clients and the healthy ways of competing with other advertising agencies.
After the presentation, the students were invited to have an office tour, followed by a knowledge sharing session presented by each business unit owned by Fortune. The students were given the opportunity to observe and ask about the teamwork in each business unit. After carrying out all the activities, the students were given written assignments.
“Besides having the tour, the students were also given the opportunity to read the book Hajar! that tells about the history of FORU. Then, we gave them a task to observe how much they have learned during their 10-day visit here,” said Cahyo Trianggoro as Knowledge Management Specialist of Fortune Indonesia.
This task became the students’ assessment materials to be submitted to school. Rika, one of the students, said she was enthusiastic to participate in the activity at Fortune for 10 days. She admitted that this activity has demonstrated for real the job in the world of integrated communications. “It has broadened my knowledge about advertising and PR agency. Previously, I couldn’t imagine what it is like to work in communications industry,” said the 17-year-old Rika.
