Students of Sanggar Fortune Nursery School III Learning about Modes of Transportation
“I’ve been on a train …”, “I’ve ridden a bike!” shouted the students of Sanggar Fortune Nursery School III in Lenteng Agung area, Jakarta, on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. They shouted one after another when being shown a large cardboard featuring various modes of transportation by some Fortuners, namely Windhi Astuti, Account Director of Fortune Indonesia and Paramitha Kartini, BSO General Affairs of Fortune Indonesia.
It was their turn to teach at the nursery school fostered by Sanggar Fortune III with transportation as the theme. There were six modes of transportation displayed; they were cars, motorcycles, trains, boats, airplanes and helicopters.
Before learning about modes of transportation, the nursery teachers of Sanggar Fortune III invited the students to do some light exercises. They moved the body along with the music. This activity is believed to stimulate their motor skills so they would be more relaxed when learning.
After doing the exercise, the students guessed the picture of modes of transportation. Without raising their hands, they immediately guessed the picture shown by Mitha and Windhi. They continued the activity by singing the songs titled ‘Kring Kring Naik Sepeda’ and ‘Naik Kereta Api Tut..Tut..Tut’. Not only did they sing, the students also made the motion and imitated the sound of the transportation.
Tired of playing, all students took a break. Soon after, Windhi and Mitha distributed drawing paper to the students. They had to color the picture of transportation like cars and airplanes. Coloring tools such as crayons, markers or colored pencils were taken out to be used by the students.
“I am so inspired to establish a kindergarten,” said Windhi after teaching.
Slightly different from Windhi, Mitha stated she was interested in the profession of kindergarten teacher. She thought that teaching was not easy but fun to do. Without realizing it, one hour had passed and the activities were finally ended by prayer and eating snacks together.
“The lesson was quite clear, good, and easily understood by the children,” said Rahma, the head of Sanggar Fortune Nursery School III.
