I started to join the competitions on Independence Day since elementary school until attending college. Competitions that I joined in my childhood were the races that demand teamwork like clogs racing and tug of war. But, I think the most exciting one was futsal competition for different batches when I was in college. At that time my position was defender, I was nicknamed The Wall for the opposing strikers could not penetrate my team’s wall of defense… hahaha…

I started to join competitions since the age of 6 up to the first grade of junior high school. I joined the competitions that need teamwork like tug of war, balloon dance, and panjat pinang (climbing a slippery pole to get prizes at the top). However, the most exciting competition to follow was panjat pinang because the team and I had to work together in order to win. Usually I joined the competition with friends in the same RT (neighborhood association) opposing teams from other RT. There were many exciting and amusing incidents that occurred during the competition, such as losing pants or dirty faces after joining the competition of taking coins from oil greased watermelon. The prizes were not luxurious but the moments and togetherness were priceless.

I really like to take part in the kerupuk (fried chips) eating race in August 17 celebration, both at school and in the neighborhood. I always joined any kerupuk eating race because my mom usually banned me from eating kerupuk since it might give me a cough. I have never got the first place; I usually won the second prize.

I mostly like to join the running race and the race to put a nail into a bottle in August 17 celebration. I joined these two races since elementary school to junior high school, at school as well as in the neighborhood. I think both races were easy because I used to run very fast, so I always won the first prize. I was happy to get 3 notebooks, pens, and erasers as the prize. Since I ran so fast, my friends were reluctant to race against me.

The last time I joined a competition was when I was in college. As a kid I usually joined marble race, sack race and volleyball. The prizes were also quite unique such as household appliances that could be shared with my team. I was excited to take part and enliven the August 17 celebration, although I had to fall down during the match.
