FORU Helps Flood Victims in Jagakarsa and Kapuk
The rain that once again flushed Jakarta and its surroundings led to the emergence of floods at some points. To help the flood victims, Fortuners collected aid which was then distributed to flood victims in Jagakarsa through a social organization, Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) on February 5, 2014 and also to flood victims in Kapuk Budi Karya through Nursery School Baitul Uyun on February 15, 2014 along with the commemoration of the National Nutrition Day.
Aids for Jagakarsa
Fortuners held the flood relief action for victims in Jagakarsa area by collecting aid starting from January 15, 2014 until January 30, 2014. They managed to collect 91 second hand clothes, 200 food packages, 126 personal equipments, 80 toddler supplies, 85 praying kits, and cash amounting to Rp 700,000,- .
The aid was received by Wahono as the coordinator of ACT Flood Post located on Desa Putra Street, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. FORU was the first company to provide flood relief in the post, following the government and educational institutions. Representing the flood victims in Jagakarsa and Lenteng Agung, Wahono said a big thank you, “Thank you FORU, hopefully FORU will be more successful!”
Indira Abidin as FORU Corporate Secretary also expressed her gratitude to the Fortuners who had offered aid to the flood victims. “Thank you to everyone who has taken part to help the flood victims. Let us take every opportunity to help others because we are actually helping ourselves, building self-sensitivity to the suffering of others and creating happiness for others by sharing. May God reward you with manifold kindness.” said Indira.
Sanggar Fortune took part in sharing
“Smart Kids? Ready! Smart Kids? Ready!” said the teachers and the students one after another at Nursery School ((PAUD) Baitul Uyun in Kapuk Budi Karya RT 18/12 No. 64, Cengkareng, West Jakarta when Sanggar Fortune team visited them on Saturday, February 15, 2014. In addition to helping victims of tidal flood in the region, the visit of the teachers and the students of Sanggar Fortune Nursery School to Kapuk was also to commemorate the National Nutrition Day that fell on January 25, 2014. The spirit of joy was seen on 50 nursery students who attended the occasion although the traces of flood and tidal flood inundation were still apparent on the walls of their classrooms.
The group from Sanggar Fortune Nursery School fostered by FORU as its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) offered reliefs which consisted of nutritious food as well as equipments for educational games to increase the intelligence and creativity of Baitul Uyun nursery students. This visit also served as a comparative study for Sanggar Fortune nursery teachers to learn about the mechanism of waste bank that has already run well at Nursery School Baitul Uyun.
Rusdi, the adviser of Nursery School Baitul Uyun, explained that since early on, the students have been taught to love their neighborhood. It is undeniable that the situation of the students’ neigborhood is far from decent. The pile of garbage, dirty river, tidal flood inundation that never dries out seems to fuse with their life. “The students here are used to flood; they are not surprised about it anymore,” said Rusdi. The fact makes Rusdi concerned with the students’ health; therefore, the Nursery School Baitul Uyun made the Waste Bank program in an effort to instill love for the environment and reduce the negative impact of their environment.
So far, many changes have occurred in Kapuk Budi Karya area. “There used to be a huge pile of garbage near the river as high as a two story house. Thanks God, now the garbage pile has been significantly reduced,” said Rusdi while showing mounds of garbage to Sanggar Fortune group. At the end of the visit, Rusdi thanked them very much and hoped that FORU will keep becoming an activator in education and health for children.
