Fortune Realizes the Dream of Post # BantuBanjir
Donating Rubber Boat for Sisgana extracurricular in Karawang
The dream of officials of Common Post #BantuBanjir 2013 to have a rubber boat is finally realized. Because of the donation from Fortune Group, the post which is headquartered in Rumah Damai Indonesia in Jati Padang area got their first rubber boat since it was formed by the mass organization Gema Damai and Indonesian Market Traders Association (IPPI) in 2007.
The donated rubber boat with a capacity of 6-7 people was directly handed over by the Director of Fortune Group Muljadi Sulaeman on February 28, 2013 and received by Fahira Idris, the initiator of the Twitter-based social movement #BantuBanjir as well as Indonesian activist and entrepreneur.
According to one of the post officials Aslim Nur Hasan, the distribution of the first rubber boat has been well thought out. “We are really delighted to receive this relief. Therefore, the distribution must be set right on target. Who receives this boat should really feel the benefits.” said Aslim.
Having mapped the entire areas prone to flooding in Jakarta and surrounding areas, post #BantuBanjir has successfully narrowed down the target into only three options. They are Karawang, Muara Gembong (Bekasi), and Kresek (Tangerang). The needs of the three areas are then analyzed. “Based on the result of survey and discussion, we decided to channel Fortune donation to Karawang. We think, they need it the most at present time. This boat can be useful for long-term there, “he said.
The choice of the location is certainly not without reason. In Karawang, there is a school that includes disaster response into their curriculum because of frequent flooding. Therefore, Fortune, through Post #BantuBanjir, will specifically donate the boat to the Vocational School of Information Technology (SMKTI) Mathlaul Anwar Segaran, Segaran Village, Batujaya District, Karawang.
At the outset, the disaster response curriculum established in 2012 was part of the educational program. Now, SMKTI Mathlaul Anwar has formed a special team of disaster called Student Disaster Team or what they refer to as Sisgana. The team is a part of extracurricular activities for students and currently has 30 members.
Nana Suryana, the teacher of Health and Physical Education as well as the coach of Sisgana, explained that Sisgana’s work area target includes districts of Batujaya and Pakisjaya where the villages have the ‘tradition’ of flood as the location of the kampongs is along the Citarum river bank. “But, there is possibility to also reach other areas than the two districts,” said Nana.
Fahira Idris who was deliberately present on that day at the post to directly accept donation of the rubber boat from Fortune expressed her happiness. “It’s a very luxurious aid for us, because we usually use a wooden boat while evacuating. This would be an effective helper during floods. Very useful, ” said Fahira enthusiastically. ”Thank you very much Fortune. May Fortune be rewarded plentifully for the good deed, “ she concluded.
Muljadi Sulaeman was no less excited. “This is our first boat for flood victims but hopefully not the last. Hopefully there is a second, third boat, and so on that we can contribute to help them, “he hoped.
